Def’s Choreography:

Salutation to the Sun:

Planned Routine:

Def bows and then skates around the pond once, building speed. He then leaps into the air, mimicking the rising of the sun, raising his front paws over his body. Landing, he continues to skate, rising on to his hind paws and placing his front legs over his head. He twirls in place, slowly letting his arms down like beams emanating from the sun. He lands back and rotates about, repeating small figure eights to show the sun’s lazy path through the sky. Def then raises onto his hind legs, front legs out to the sides and begins spinning, raising them above his head. When his front paws are up right over his head, he jumps into the air and spins once, representing the sun reaching its zenith. Landing back on all four paws, Def skates backwards, mimicking the suns slow retreat. He continues to do winding, looping figure eight-esque figures as he spins backwards across the pond. As the act concludes, Def raises his front paws to his sides, places them over his head, and gently returns to standing on all four paws, representative of the sun’s descent and finally disappearance. Suddenly, Def explodes into action, whirling and bounding about to represent the sunset that comes before the setting sun. The act closes with Def miming weeping before sweeping into a deep, low, bow. Exits pond (likely to thunderous applause).

Actual Routine:

Panel 1: Def slips and slides out onto the pond. Shakily, he bows, almost slipping as he does so, face tight from the effort of not falling over. Skinner glances at Hop as the tom declares this is going to be a stellar performance and that he’d wager one hundred favor Def won’t fall once during his routine. The Skinner quickly takes the Monarch up on the bet. Hop laughs, nervously watching as Def begins to slide across the ice.

Panel 2: Def manages to slip and slide around the pond without crashing, mentally congratulating himself on making it this far. Careful not to build up too much speed, Def eventually reaches the point in the routine he should jump into the air. He does not. Skipping forward, he raises his forelegs into the air. Closing his eyes and reminding himself this is for fun, the tom does so. Littlestep smiles. Whether this is because he is a nice and supportive tom or he inwardly cannot wait for the tom who tormented him in the woods to fall remains to be seen. Crimsonpaw watches, anticipating disaster.

Panel 3: Def attempts to twirl in place. However, his momentum was thrown off when he half-committed to standing and he begins to fall backwards. A shrill cry exits the tom’s lips, one he will deny until his death. Vividly, his life flashes before his eyes, from his parents to the Pilgrims to Safe Haven. He wonders if, in the next life, he’ll have his stolen hoard back. Duskpaw smiles a little watching the tom, appreciating at the very least the comedic value of his routine. Tidefrost watches, grinning from ear to ear, as her favorite tom plummets towards the ice. Why she would smile at this, nobody knows.

Panel 4: Def somehow catches himself before hitting the ice. Bent backwards, the tom flails, hoping he can somehow play this off as intentional. The crowd watches breathless, many hoping to see him collapse. He waves a paw around wildly before rolling to one side and righting himself. Dimly, he hears a single vertebrae pop. Such is the price of art, Def tells himself. Spicepaw roars with laughter, convinced this is the intended routine. Violetsin reels back from Spice, shocked by the sudden gale of laughter from the apprentice.

Panel 5: Def bows, very proud to have rolled out of his crippling position without falling. He imagines the crowd cheering as he closes his eyes. Echopaw’s face is blank. Whether this is because he is unimpressed or disappointed cannot be discerned.

Panel 6: Def slowly slides his way off the ice, cutting his routine short. Some call for the tom to continue, others call for an encore, but most are simply silent, torn between being impressed and disgusted. As he reaches the snow at the edge of the pond, Def picks up speed, only to misplace a paw and face plant right before escaping the cold, icy doom that has occupied his last half a minute of existence. Dimly, he wonders if there might be another Haven he can journey to. Maybe become a travelling hermit. Skinner declares she is the winner of the bet, glancing at Hop with the expectation he pay her. Loudly, Hop reminds her the bet was he’d fall during the routine. Arguing ensues.

I am so bad at going through my notifications, But o my god, Def is perfection I swear, Everything about this made me laugh and in truth I would give him a 10/10 on this performance //laughs// And man, Echo would be both dissappointed and unimpressed, although watching def fall makes his day without a doubt
